About the article

The article examines language teachers’ attitudes towards artificial intelligence through discourse analysis. It focuses on how teachers conceptualize AI through metaphors, evaluative language, professional concerns and pedagogical possibilities.

The central metaphor, AI is like fire, points to the ambivalent nature of artificial intelligence in education: it can be powerful, useful and transformative, but it also requires caution, responsibility, critical judgment and situated pedagogical decision-making.

The study contributes to current debates on AI and language education by foregrounding teachers’ discourses and imaginaries, rather than presenting AI only as a neutral tool or technical innovation.
